  • Associação de Apoio à Criança com Câncer (AACC) of Brazil, receives funding from the INEOS Community Fund, to complete the operation of their educational-gap project for its residents
impacted by the effects of childhood cancer treatment.

Health and community service programs often rely on the support of charitable donations to provide enhancements, and the continuation of their essential services. The COVID-19 pandemic has contributed towards many uncertainties and financial gaps within these organizations. Due to lack of available charitable funding, one such organization is Associação de Apoio à Criança com Câncer, in São Paulo, Brazil.

INEOS Styrolution Brazil responded to the urgent request for funding by the AACC, a children’s residential cancer treatment center, and providing them with a grant of $4,000 USD through the INEOS Community Fund. This grant provided the much needed funding towards the completion of their educational-gap project for the treatment center’s residents.

The AACC recognized that children in cancer treatment often experienced significant educational gaps by stopping their education while receiving treatment. Wanting to ensure access to free education continued for their patients while away from their homes, and facing childhood cancer, they created the Cancer out of Home Project. Children in the program, receive continued education, allowing them to resume their studies and continue their regular education after treatment by avoiding gaps and dropout scenarios.

In 2019, we started the renovation of the space given to set up our school.” Sueli Santos, Administrative/Finance, AACC continues, “We provide educational support to patients during cancer treatment. When the child leaves their home city to undergo cancer treatment at AACC, they stop studying. As not to miss the school year, our teachers, interns, and education volunteers, work individually with our school subjects (patients). The renovation was almost done. We received everything in the form of donations, but the furniture was missing. This grant from the INEOS Community Fund is paying for almost all the furniture purchased (chairs, tables, shelves, cupboards, diaper changers, alphabet plates, drawers and more).”

“We thank you for your great contribution to make this dream come true.” says, Sueli Santos, Administrative/Finance, AACC

“AACC is a hugely important organization for our community, supporting poor children in need of cancer medical treatment, arriving from all parts of Brazil. AACC depends on community donations and the COVID-19 crisis became an even bigger challenge for the organization to raise funds.

The INEOS Community Fund was an amazing, and very well executed initiative to support people in great need around the world. Together, as we look at everyone’s actions to support the COVID-19, INEOS “hands on” campaign, it makes us even prouder to be working for INEOS Styrolution.” says, Fabio Bordin, INEOS Styrolution Business Director, South America.

The £1m INEOS Community Fund was established by INEOS Chairman Sir Jim Ratcliffe in March 2020 in tandem with the company’s Covid-19 “Hands On” campaign, which set up new production lines to provide millions of bottles of free hand sanitizer per month to hospitals and frontline healthcare. The fund enables INEOS sites across the world to support the charitable organizations doing vital work in their local communities at this particularly difficult time.
